This grant is not to be confused with the grant of the same name on the North side of Kings River later given to Manuel Castro. ==History== Limantour, a Frenchman by birth and a Mexican by choice, became notorious for his fraudulent claims land grants in California from Governor Micheltorena. Limantour claimed to have been granted eleven square leagues. With the cession of California to the United States following the Mexican-American War, the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo provided that the land grants would be honored. As required by the Land Act of 1851, a claim for this Laguna de Tache were filed with the Land Commission and was rejected by the Land Commission.〔(United States.
